Okay, so you've chuckled at the snarky comments, rolled your eyes at the marketing rants, and maybe even learned a thing or two about navigating this crazy world of ours. But there's more to "With a Side of Sarcasm" than just witty observations and questionable humor.
This website is driven by two passions:
Sharing the Marketing Madness (Born from Hospital Beds and Hope):
This whole sarcastic marketing commentary thing started in a rather unexpected place: a hospital bed. For nearly two months, I was tethered to machines, surrounded by the beeping symphony of medical equipment, and facing the daunting reality of a heart transplant. And while those months were filled with uncertainty and anxiety, they also sparked a creative outlet. With time to reflect and a healthy dose of gallows humor, I began writing about the absurdities of the marketing world, a world that suddenly seemed both trivial and strangely comforting in the face of mortality.
Even after leaving the hospital, the writing continued. For another six long months, I waited for the call that a heart was available, a period filled with hope, fear, and a lot of time for introspection. Those experiences shaped not only my perspective on life but also my voice as a writer.
A Second Chance at Life (and a Second Chance to Make a Difference):
But there's another, deeper reason for this website. In September of 2023, I received the incredible gift of a heart transplant. This second chance at life has given me a new perspective, a renewed sense of purpose, and a burning desire to pay it forward.
That's why I'm using this platform to advocate for organ donation. It's a cause close to my heart (pun intended, because I have a new one!), and I believe that by sharing my story and raising awareness, I can encourage others to consider this incredible act of generosity.
The Need is Real:
The numbers speak for themselves. As of October 17, 2024, over 103,000 people in the United States are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Every day, 17 people die waiting for an organ that never comes. While thousands of transplants are performed each year, the need far outweighs the availability of organs.
The Power of One:
The good news is that one organ donor can save up to eight lives. That's eight families who receive the incredible gift of more time with their loved ones. Eight individuals who get a second chance at life, just like I did.
